SHAMEFUL

 

For over 20 years I have extolled the virtues of this compassionate and caring society of Sweden. I have blogged about Sweden for 8 years and am generally accused of being 'more in love with Sweden than the Swedes are'.

Today, however, I am stunned by the article in The Local reporting this case of a young mother whose 18 month old son died of cancer. Denied benefits because she did not sign on the unemployment register the DAY AFTER her child died.

Just occasionally Sweden slips up, as all systems do. This 'slip up', however, is truly deserving of the title: SHAMEFUL.

Whatever the ins and outs, complexities and regulations, concerning this case the result is a considerable disservice to the integrity and warm-heartedness of the people of Sweden.
