To Joakim's family,
I did not know Joakim, but feel terribly saddened by his unnecessary death. It seems that like dictators, when religious leaders have a problem, their solution is to kill someone. The group of religious fanatics in America who burnt the Koran also want to kill people who disagree with them. Joakim was fighting against this kind of solution to problems. How many more people need to die before this vicious arithmetic stops?
My thoughts are with Joakim's family who have to find strength to go on without him.

There are simply no words to describe the sadnest I feel when I think of what happened to you. I keep dreaming of what might / must have happened in the minutes before you died and I am truly sad.
It is very ironic that you had to die for the very cause you were so passionate about... defending human rights. I still remember helping you write your final thesis for your LLM in 2004. You were so bright and dedicated. I was always so impressed by that.
Although our relationship had its ups and downs, I am very happy to have shared so many memories with you in the three years we were together... memories that I now am the only one remembering. That is very sad to me.
May you be happy where you now are and protect the ones who loved you so much. I am thinking especially of your family. My thoughts are with them. Peo, Ulla och Emilia, min hjärta och mina tänker är med er.

It is ironic that Joakim was killed by the very cause he fight for. The rights of ordinary people. The ordinary people can kill in a frenzy too. Ordinary people can be do horrible things.
A world without sense is not for sensible people. Rest in Peace. Little brother!

As many others I was deeply disturbed by yesterday's events in Mazar-e Sharif, and the killing of defenseless civilians.

My son also worked for the U.N. and now works for the National Democratic Institute setting up elections in the mid-east. ah. You mean paying the extra tax of taking it themselves to another place.
So what the article means is that they have not actually reduced waste by 20% but that they have just reduced the collection of waste by the 'trash collection services'.
Does this mean that if you recycle all your own waste there will not be any charge?
It does not mean that in my area of Sweden. I pay a standing charge regardless and then pay an extra charge every time they collect.
If I recycled all my waste, I would still pay a tax.

PS. We do recycle most of our waste, so I am not against recycling but all for it :)
